Pruning Azaleas

When do I prune my Azaleas?

Azaleas and most spring blooming plants bloom, drop their flowers, and then set on
new buds which they will hold all year until the next spring. Pruning off these buds are in
essence pruning of the flowers before they bloom.  Wait until after they bloom, then
immediately prune the azaleas, the timing of this varies by variety.  There is usually a
window of a few weeks right after, so time is important.  In regards to Encore Azaleas
also prune those immediately after the spring bloom.
